书籍制作流程

CONCEPTION

1. Gather and study content

2. Conceptualize the book, imagine a structure, (test different structures and narratives with while crafting small dummy books)

3. Choose a format

4. Sketch sections, rough layouts with loose grid

5. Imagine the materials according to amount of content

6. Make a rough dummy clearly showing binding technique

7. Meeting with client and make sure the content is received and

confirmed – be flexible (client can be met at any time during this process)

APPROACH A PRINTER

8. Choose and contact a printer according to needs

9. Present the Dummy and dress A spec list for the printer

10. Get an accurate estimate with the printer and make sure he understands the specs — validate the printing technique

11. Validate the materials

DESIGN

12. Make sure the content is final

13. Review the materials available and modify the design decisions according to the printer’s price

14. Make a grid and establish final structure, choose typography styles (macrotypography)

15. Insert content

16. Design cover and say hi to client

CORRECTION AND REVISION

17. When the design is finished, a full final dummy should be given to a professional for revision

18. The designers make corrections according to the reviser’s notes

19. Second round of corrections with reviser

20. Repeat operation

FINALIZE AND SEND TO TO PRINT

21. When the revision is over, it is time to refine the details in the typography – microtypography

22. Send to printer the printing file

23. Receive proofs: printing proofs and imposition/ placement proofs

24. Approve color and everything discussed, make type corrections (if time and money permits)

25. Printing and press check
